Whether it's your first time using a voiceover artist or you've worked with loads before, I've answered some FAQ's below to make it easier for you to decide I'm your girl!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is Hannah Patterson?

Me! A British female presenter and voice artist who has worked on TV, Radio and the Web for over 20 years. I have worked with numerous top-class companies like IKEA, Asda, Danone, Duracell and Renault. As someone with years of experience in voicing commercials, corporate narration, YouTube and social media content, audio guides, eLearning, IVR and more, I know what it takes to deliver the best voice that resonates with audiences worldwide!

  • Where are you based? And what is your accent?

I'm British and based in the United Kingdom, but I work worldwide as a freelancer. I was born in Nottingham, lived in Leicester for many years and now reside in Staffordshire. Therefore, I have a Midlands accent which can be toned up or down accordingly. Basically I will say ‘bath’ instead of ‘barth’, unless you direct me to say otherwise.

  • What is a voiceover?

A voiceover is words spoken by an actor or actors, unseen by the viewer or listener. You might hear voiceover in the following examples: radio commercials, audiobooks, animated TV/movies, video games, e-learning programs, apps, websites, podcasts, GPS and many more.

  • What kit do you use?

    Operating from my own professional voiceover studio saves you the time and money of organising a recording venue. My professionally sound proofed voiceover studio for British voice work contains the following equipment;

    Sontronics Orpheus Microphone

    Universal Audio Apollo Twin Interface

    Adobe Audition CC

    Fast FTP Server

Skype, Zoom and Source Connect Now link up

  • What services do you offer?

I specialise in voice over for audio and video projects from my sound proofed studio at home. I also offer presenter services from my home green screen studio or at a location of your choice. Send me your script and any direction you have, and I can do the rest!

  • How much is your service?

This depends on the script length (word count) and where the voiceover will be heard. Drop me an email with your word count and what the audio is for and I can send you a rate.

  • Why do voiceovers charge a usage fee or buyout?

I charge a usage fee on top of the recording fee (know as the Basic Studio Fee of BSF) as the audio will be potentially heard by hundreds, thousands or even millions of people, possibly even worldwide. This will be outlined in full when I receive your requirements. For an exact rate, please get in touch to discuss the details of your project.

  • How will you deliver the audio?

As soon as I have voiced the script, I usually edit and debreath the audio to give you an easy file to work with. Of course, you can choose between the edited or the raw, unedited version. Most people opt for me to edit it. I don’t add any extra effects as this gives you the option of mixing it to your liking.

  • In which audio format will I get the voice?

My standard audio formats for voiceover are WAV and MP3. Some phone systems require file types such as CCITT u-Law WAV with 8kHz, 5MB, Mono attributes. This I can send you too!

  • I'm looking for a particular kind of voice. Can you help me?

Let me know what kind of voice you are looking for and I'll be happy to provide a few examples.

  • I have a script, but I think it doesn't sound like spoken language. What should I do?

A professional voiceover will be able to speak the text to sound good. However, a well-written script is essential if you want the reader to come to life. I can help you with copywriting and re-editing text to make sure it becomes a voiceover script that sounds great.

  • Hey, can you help me with a tight deadline? How fast can you deliver?

Turnaround time is usually within 48 hours and I can offer extra fast delivery for urgent work.

  • Oh, dear! I have a text change now. Can you help me?

We can plan a new recording session if a text needs to be rewritten after the recording has taken place. The cost for this voiceover depend on the length of the text. The rate for any additional recording is always discussed in advance. Remember that if there is a long time between the original recording and a retake, the sound may differ from the original. In these cases, it is standard for the text to be recorded from scratch.

  • What if I've lost my files?

I will do my best to save all audio for at least one year after it has been completed and sent. It's still possible that I will have the audio up to 3 years afterwards.

  • Why would I choose you as a voiceover when my friend has a good voice?

Many people think doing a voiceover is an easy task that anyone can do, but that is not the case. It will definitely take a lot of practice to make a voice sound natural, believable, sincere, and warm. When you try to save money by having your receptionist record your company's on-hold message and realise how unprofessional it sounds to clients, come back and see me! Voiceovers are more than just about any voice reading a script.

  • What is the major difference between your voice and other voices?

There's a lot of difference as you will only get the best.

  • I want some music or sound effects added to the voice recording.

I can add royalty-free music or sound effects to your recording. For more complex production I work with some amazing producers and I can give you a rate for both voiceover and production. Some people opt for this for things like radio ads, station imaging etc.

  • What happens if I find any mistake in the recording?

I always do my best to deliver the best. I will redo any mispronunciations or errors that do not match the provided or approved script at no charge. To make sure I get it right first time, I’ll always ask you to give me the correct pronunciations before I record.

  • How can I order different voiceovers for the same project?

I have a handful of very talented voiceover peers that I can draft in if needed, including male voiceover and young voices.

  • I've got more questions, how do I contact you?

Don't worry; I’ve got your back. Just go to the Hannah Patterson contact page and get in touch through any of the ways listed.
